Temporary School Information - Number 7

temp school information

Dear Parents and Caregivers

This temporary school information story is about what is the best way to get your children to school and to pick them up.

Parking is now not easy for parents at Darcy Road. Building contractors begin work at 7am. Teachers and staff start arriving at school at 7.30am and they are all at school by 8.30. This means all parking spaces within easy reach of the school are gone by the time parents arrive.  There is no parking in Olive Street. So, what is the best way to drop off and pick up your children.

Number 1: Walking. Always walking!! Unless your family lives out of our school's enrolment area no child at our school lives further than 1.5kms from school. This means everyone can walk.

Number 2: Catch the bus. These buses drive a variety of routes related to Darcy Road. Students need to have an OPAL card to travel. The buses are designated school buses, so the public aren't allowed to travel on these buses. Parents do need to understand that there are no teachers on the bus and the only adult on the bus is the driver. The driver does not talk to the children.

Number 3: Kiss and Ride. If you must drive and drop your children at school then use Kiss and Ride. Kiss and Ride is designed for everyone to patiently wait in the car line to be in the position for your children to get out of the car. Children get out of the car and parents drive off promptly.  To use Kiss and Ride your child must be able to do up and undo their seat belt themselves. Parents are not to get out of the car. Kiss and Ride operates with parents driving heading west and dropping students in front of the school and parents driving heading east and dropping students at the red post box. Parents must pull up to the front of Kiss and Ride and not stop in the middle of the Kiss and Ride space.

If parents insist on driving and parking, you will only be able to park in the neigbouring streets. You will need to build in the time to park into your travel plans.

We strongly urge families to ditch the car!

Please remember that school starts at 8:55. Be in line by 5 to 9! If you plan to arrive at school at 8:55 your child will be late. Parents need to build in time for walking, saying goodbye, traffic plus anything else that needs time in the school drop off.

Again, I hope this information is a help to our families.

Kind regards

Trudy Hopkins
